Abstract:
Constructing modern building efficiency, productivity and sustainability definitely have to be taken into account. Therefore hollow core systems are increasingly used for the realization of low weight, bi-axial hollow core flat concrete floor slabs, resulting in economic and resource-efficient constructions. The special structural behavior of these systems must be considered in designing and construction. Experimental investigations are required in order to establish a safe design concept. Simplifications and design tools enable a simple design and construction similar to that of conventional reinforced concrete flat slabs. The level of safety required by the building authorities is met by considering the design and detailing rules of bi-axial hollow core flat slabs with flattened rotationally symmetrical void formers.
