Abstract:
This paper reports the preliminary results of two experiments evaluating the experience of reading with handheld devices. The main purpose of the research is to address the research question whether handheld reading devices are identical to paper books in terms of facilitating users’ reading experiences. The research results demonstrate almost no difference when readers engage with different media, whether tablet computer, e-ink reader, or conventional paper. However, we are unable to make confident conclusions based on these preliminary results of the first installment of our research due to reading materials used in the experiment.
