Abstract: In this paper the results of a questionnaire researching the relationship between an organisation’s knowledge sharing practices and the achievement of high level environmental performance is investigated. A case study approach was adopted as the framework for this study. The organisation studied was the Unilever Corporation. Senior managers from the North American division of the company were the subjects of the questionnaire. The aim of the study was to understand how the practice of knowledge sharing within the organisation operated and how this impacted on the attainment of enhanced environmental performance for the organisation. The results from this study found that knowledge sharing tended to stay within product categories of the organisation and created knowledge silos that impeded knowledge from reaching the entire organisation. Overall it was found that knowledge sharing to support environmental initiatives was not supported by the evidence from the questionnaire responses. Thus there remain significant opportunities for knowledge sharing practices to be incorporated to assist organisation’s to achieve their environmental performance goals.
