Abstract: The present study was aimed at investigating cognitivebehavior methods effect on trichotillomania at relatively longtermfollow-up. Trichotillomania-related symptoms wereevaluated in a patient suffering from trichotillomania before andafter brief cognitive behavior therapy and at a 1-month, 3-month,6-month and 1-year follow-up. The manual-based cognitivebehavior therapy consisted of self-monitoring, stimulus control, habit reversal, relaxation training, directed self talking, thoughtstopping and thought restructuring procedures offered in ninesessions. After 1-year follow-up results were associated withlower pre-treatment levels of depression and anxiety and withcomplete abstinence from hair pulling immediately aftertreatment. Self-monitoring data showed that treatment wassuccessful in decreasing the numbers of hairs pulled to near-0levels. These findings were confirmed with parent s reports. Thetreatment was found to be acceptable by patient.
