Abstract:

The present study examined the longitudinal relationship between the career decision making self-efficacy and dysfunctional career thoughts of Korean university students conducting structural equation modeling (SEM), using residual scores in order to analyze the longitudinal data. Results indicated that the growth of dysfunctional career thoughts mediate negatively the two time points of career decision making self-efficacy. The present study also examined the moderation effect of the planned happenstance skills on the longitudinal relationship between career decision making self-efficacy and dysfunctional career thoughts. The results showed a significant moderator effect of the growth of the planned happenstance skills on the negative relationship between career decision making self-efficacy and dysfunctional career thoughts. Meaning in cases of students with high growth of happenstance skills, scores of the career decision making self-efficacy were significantly higher than those of students with low growth of happenstance skills. Statically significant interaction effect was also found.
