Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to reveal the relationship among athletes regulatory focus, competitive anxiety and satisfaction with competition contents that influences athlete’s physical and mental health. The participants were 315 undergraduate students who belong to an intramural sports club in a Japanese university. Result showed competitive anxiety decreased so that both promotion focus and prevention focus was high. This study also showed satisfaction with competition contents increased so that competitive anxiety was low. The study found that athlete’s motivation of “I want to win” or “I do not want to lose” promote and maintain their voluntary effort action, competitive anxiety for the competition may decreases as a result. Thereby, the athletes can play just as wanted, it may lead highly satisfaction with own performance in the competition.
