Abstract: Research has demonstrated that family caregivers suffer from anxiety and depression. In Zimbabwe, family caregivers of People Living with HIV/AIDS carry the psychological, emotional, and physical burdens of doing this work, as the country has been devastated by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Family caregivers provide the social capital to care for their family members at home. The researcher conducted a mixed methods study among 154 family caregivers of People Living with HIV/AIDS in south-western Zimbabwe. The purpose of the study was to measure the level of depression among family caregivers of People Living with HIV/AIDS who are on antiretrovirals; and to identify the duties caregivers perform as they care for the family members. This extended abstract focuses on the demographics of the sample and the results of the Beck Depression Inventory.
