Abstract: Forgiveness in children was examined, considering an interaction “Process” factor i.e. shared rumination, and an individual cognitive-situational factor, i.e. rumination. The structural equation modelling test showed that the theoretical model was fit with data (N = 262). Rumination had positive and significant relation to shared rumination and negative and significant relation to decisional forgiveness. In turn, shared rumination had negative and significant relation to decisional forgiveness and to emotional forgiveness. Meanwhile, decisional forgiveness had positive and significant relation to emotional forgiveness. Also, mediational analyses showed that shared rumination and decisional forgiveness fully mediated the relation between rumination and emotional forgiveness. Shared rumination also partially mediated the relation between rumination and decisional forgiveness, and decisional forgiveness partially mediated the relation between shared rumination and emotional forgiveness. The results confirmed the prepositions, revealing that the interactional “Process” factor i.e. shared rumination and the individual factor i.e. rumination related to the decisional and emotional forgiveness in children. Suggestions on future research and application to forgiveness intervention were discussed.
