Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the Children Automatic Thoughts Scale (CATS) in Turkish children and adolescents. The subjects were 710 students (368 female; 342 male) aged from 8-17years with a mean age of 12.33(SD=2.27) years. The CATS was translated into Turkish, and then CFA was applied to the obtained data. The result of CFA has shown that a four factor model fit the data as in the original scale. Cronbach alpha for the overall CATS was .93, and the subscales for physical threat .80, social threat .82, personal failure .85 and hostility .77 also shown adequate internal consistency. In addition test-re test reliability was .86 across 8 weeks. The results have shown that CATS is a psychometrically sound tool to asses negative automatic thoughts and it showed equivalent factor structure and very similar reliability results to those within an Australian population.
