Abstract:
This analysis seeks to expand our understanding of ethnic variation in life satisfaction as a response to the health of an elderly coresident in a household, particularly in regards to the US Asian context. Filial responsibility is one of the characteristics often ascribed to Asian cultures as part of the “model minority” stereotype common in the US. This study seeks to add to the growing literature that looks at this measurable behaviors and outcomes that offer evidence rather than stereotypes by using research that reflects the variation within Asian families.
