Abstract:

The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationship between paternal and maternal acceptance and psychological adjustment of their adolescents in Bangladesh. It also explore that the effect of gender on maternal and paternal acceptance. The sample consisted of 100 adolescents (50 male and 50 female) their age ranged 15 and 21 years from Bangladesh. Measures were used: i) Parental Acceptance and Rejection Questionnaire PARQ (Rohner and Khaleque, 2005), ii) The Personality Assessment Questionnaire PAQ (Rohner and Khaleque, 2005), to assess the psychological adjustment. Results of descriptive statistics showed that on average both Bangladeshi male and female adolescence perceived their parents to be accepting. Results also showed significant correlations between psychological adjustment and perceived parental acceptance for male and female adolescence.
