Abstract:
According to past studies of FTS, many materials showed the impacts of change in catalyst system, both supporter and metallic active phase, to the formation of hydrocarbons in desired products. In this study, magnesium oxide (MgO) was used as a promoter at a small amount of concentrate. The catalyst containing MgO was synthesized from cobalt complex precursors, magnesium nitrate hexahydrate and silica gel support (SiO2) at optimal conditions by impregnation method. The catalyst system had its surface shape characterized by using transmission electron microscopy (TEM); Crystalline phases by small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS); Surface area, capillary size by adsorption of Nitrogen and dispersion of metal by CO pulse chemisorption method. The complete catalyst systems with various contents of MgO (0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6%wt.) were employed to conduct the FTS, and hydrocarbons in the different fractions of products were indicated by using a GC-MS method (Gas chromatography - mass spectrometry).
