Abstract:
The membranes were prepared by incorporation of micro sized 4A NaY-Zeolite in to the poly (vinyl alcohol) modified with poly acrylic acid (PAA). The resulting membrane was characterized by XRD, FTIR spectroscopy, and was finally applied in the pervaporation separation of water acetic acid mixture. From the result of FTIR spectra, it was observed that zeolite incorporation doesn’t affect crosslinking reaction between PVA and PAA. This means particles are uniformly distributed by the physical means with different loading of zeolite, and the explanation above could be supported by XRD pattern. In the pervaporation performance, it was observed that, zeolite incorporated membranes were showed drastic increase in permeation rate as compared with PVA membrane modified with PAA and slight increase inseparation factor. On the other hand, in effect of acetic acid concentration in the feed mixture, 4A zeolite membrane and zeolite unloaded membrane was shown different tendency in terms of separation factor. . Among the membrane prepared , the membrane consisting of 8 wt. {6e6090cdd558c53a8bc18225ef4499fead9160abd3419ad4f137e902b483c465} of zeolite in PVA/PAA showed highest permeation flux of 2.61 Kg/m2h with separation factor 42.93 for 90 wt.{6e6090cdd558c53a8bc18225ef4499fead9160abd3419ad4f137e902b483c465} of water in feed solution.
