Abstract:
Bi2(MoO4)3with excess MoO3 has been prepared by combustion method using Bismuth nitrate, MoO3 and glycine. The calcined powder showed a band gap of 3.0 eV based on UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectrum. SEM studies revealed particle size in μm region. The sample as prepared showed excellent photo catalytic activity for the degradation of dyes with different chromophores under visible light. Degradation of 5ppm Rhodamine B, 10ppm Methylene Blue, 5ppm Crystal Violet and 20ppm Eosin Y, 20ppm Carmine indigo and 10ppm Malachite green aqueous solutions with 100 mg of dispersed catalyst occurred in 60, 60, 70, 90, 40 and 150 minutes respectively. Binary solutions containing two different dyes were also successfully bleached by the catalyst under visible light.
