This presentation will explore the potential connections between cultural studies and Africana Studies in an effort to develop a usable pedagogical and analytical model. This model includes four analytical parameters that involve a spectrum of interdisciplinary analyses. The matrix is 1) History, evolution, change; 2) Afrikanity and Semiology; 3) Resistance and Complicity; and 4) Self/Identity and Sociocultural and political systems and institutions. The four points on the matrix affect each other. When used in combination, they provide rich and in-depth analyses of diverse phenomena, experiences and narratives. This model can be a tool in the classroom as well as a foundation for formulating research projects
