Abstract:
The term ‘nurse’ evokes different reactions in different cultures despite the fact that they all probably begin with an image of a person who handles socially less desirable things such as the bedpan. The term ‘nurse’ derived from its Latin source which means nursing people back to health, also has a wider reference, especially in Western societies of nurturing, caring, comforting, the laying on of hands, and other maternal types of behavior, in short mothering.
