Abstract:

This paper explores the impact of governance arrangements on youth civic engagement. Departing from urban regime theory, urban governance theory and meta governance theory, governments, schools, families, and community are viewed as potential constructive forces for building youth’s civic duty and capacities. It furthermore examines the capacity of state, depicts different modes of community arrangements, and ultimately highlights the role of family and civic education. The paper builds upon previous literature in this field and serves as the theoretical foundation for further empirical research on youth civic engagement, which the author will embark on by conducting surveys and interviews with youngsters and officials.
