Abstract:
In the film history of China, Shanghai has been a significant spot since the beginning. Incipient film, which is known as Lumiere films, made its debut in August 11, 1896 in Xu Garden (Xuyuan), a popular entertainment quarter in Shanghai. (Zhang Yingjin, 5) The film industry developed and pivoted on Shanghai, and eventually, a special term, ‘Shanghai film’ was invented by late 1940. (Daegeun Lim, 342) The films of early 1900s includes the account of the period, and the latter films depicting Shanghai succeeded in accurately representing the city.
