Abstract:

For the first time in history, society has a plethora of godlike tools and knowledge for simultaneously changing individuals and their living environments. The development of nanotechnology and genetic engineering with resulting advancements like artificial intelligence and robotic technology are having dramatic impact on cultural trends and human rights, such as expectations of privacy and personal security. This paper examines, through empirical investigations, news analysis, literature revue and contemporary media, the benefits, risks and responsibilities associated with this transformation, resulting in a utopian or dystopian society. In addition, limitations of this paper are given and future areas for comprehensive research are proposed.
