Abstract:
This paper proposes a practical process for project cost estimation in a small studio game development environment, based on a study of the current estimation methods and estimation tools available in the software industry. The process involves profiling common team composition and common small studio project types. It contains an eight step guide for estimation plus an integrated sub-process for introducing COTS including cost/benefit analysis and utilization of COTS to catch up project schedules. The process is designed to be quickly and cheaply adopted and integrated into a game studio’s project management process. Encouraging results from cases studies with recent projects in Silhouette Studio were presented.
