Abstract:
Jawi is a writing script in the Malay language, adopted from the Arabic alphabets. Jawi characters are considered very difficult for children to write as it requires advanced motor skills and need to be properly written. Jawi is currently taught in schools. However, it has been found that the methods used in teaching Jawi is not motivating nor interesting.
A more effective method needs to be developed to make learning Jawi a more interesting activity. A suitable method could be considered here such as the digital game-based learning (DGBL), with an appropriate interactivity environment and proper interface design to aid children in developing a genuine interest towards learning the script. In this paper, we present the framework for a digital game-based learning for Jawi character-formation, based on surveys and an intensive literature review from previous studies. The two important components that will be discussed in this paper are: the instructional content and the computer game characteristics
