Abstract:

The huge amount of data floating on the internet and in small and medium size businesses - it is not easy to manipulate or re-use the collected information in a cost effective approach. How could large amount of information gathered into one container and understood with a glance? The major contributors to this problem are computer hardware, as the capacity and storage of data has tremendously improved, the processing power experimentally increased and is on the rise day by day. All these elements are like icing on the cake, in terms of storing and generating large amount of data which is difficult to handle and understand. The problem is not with generating or creating data, but it is definitely with the quality of data. The definition of quality data is a very broad topic as the requirements or understanding of data varies from user to user or system to system. Therefore, the problem is not why such large amount of data is created or generated and how one can restrict it, but it is definitely with how effective this large amount of data could be manipulated for various outputs, to understand what needs to be understood and explore what needs to be discovered.

In order to address complex data problems, a comprehensive and robust visualisation model and framework is introduced. The visualisation model consists of four major layers, (i) acquisition and data analysis, (ii) data representation, (iii) user and computer interaction and (iv) results storage. Advanced data representation techniques are employed in Enterprise 2.0 and Web 2.0 using various data mashup technologies through a tangible tool.
