Abstract:
The SGI’s vision for the integration of physical and virtual worlds is based on a number of assumptions about the impact and ongoing development of emerging and converging technologies. We see these technologies will lead to
• Growth in the importance of “Place” and its relationship with people, learning, sustainable development, the environment, social networking and other places
• The 3D web in which the representation of places, people and data will increasing be three dimensional
• Connection between GIS / satellite imaging, 3D visualisation of villages, towns and cities, and multi-user immersive 3D environments
• Embedding of sensors in the physical environment
• Citizen engagement in communities of knowledge around “places”
• A new approach to smart buildings and their role in adding stakeholder value
