Abstract:
Energy efficiency, better utilisation and less environmental impact will mandate that computing be done smartly based on dynamic infrastructure, networking and programming model. IT has revolutionized many different aspects of human life. Still much has to be done in the medical industry to see the benefits from IT.
In this paper we present how cloud computing can be used in healthcare industry to provide benefits to community, cater for dynamic scaling of computing infrastructure in this regard and leverage high computing power. We present an online medical system model which will provide patients with several facilities online, e.g. online text based/voice chat, search for medical symptoms and cure/medicine, make appointment for face-to-face meeting, web analytics to find disease trends, first aid tips etc.
Doctors and registered nurses can benefit from several features, e.g. store patients’ information, video of patients from online chat for later investigation, web analytics to predict disease trend etc. Patients’ data will be stored in cloud storage and can be accessed anywhere using any device with internet access. This will eliminate the need for storing data in many different servers. This proposal sees medical/health industry as a very good candidate for adopting cloud computing. The main drivers for choosing cloud are unpredictable nature of demand for data, bandwidth; the ability to scale up during pandemic or any other circumstances and on demand computing for performing CPU intensive web analytics.
