Abstract:

The evaluation of student performance in classes has always been a challenge. An approach that is widespread is the use of exams, and as class sizes tend to grow larger constantly, reaching a hundred or more in some university-wide classes, it is also a challenge to grade these exams. Therefore, more and more instructors are moving towards the use ofmultiple-choice questions (MCQs). It is still a challenge to grade MCQs in classes with a large number of students. This makes the movement towards automatic correction of MCQs exam a demand and a necessity. The rapid progress of using XML (Extensible Markup Language) for large amount of structured data and it's capability of saving time make it proper for MCQs exam environment. Besides, XML provides suitability for any network suffering a lot from failure points. The main aim is to obtain the exam questions using XML from the server. Then student answers exam questions and stores the answers in an XML file in the client workstation without any connection to the server. After completing answering and closing the exam, the workstation will send the answers back to the server without effecting student's time.
