Abstract:

Virtualization and Software as a Service (SaaS), are the driving forces of cloud computing. Load balancing and replication management are very important issues in rendering a SaaS with least denial of service and high QoS. The proposed iLANCER architecture is aimed at rendering a service-independent, self orchestrated load balancing of requests for services in the cloud.

Services may become unavailable in the cloud during high traffic hours. This architecture has been designed to detect resolve this issue. Load balancing of SaaS involves three tasks, namely load detection, replication creation and balancing of load across the cloud. Three modules namely Module for Criticality Detection and Resolution (MCDR), the Replication Creation and Maintenance Module (RCMM) and the Load Balancing Module (LBM) have been proposed to do them in the respective order.

These modules are independent of the nature of service. Each module does the respective work and is self orchestrated to balance the load, taking decisions on its own. The load balancing is load and locality aware, owing to the policies followed by the modules, inherently.
