Abstract: We introduce a new lifting algorithm for Daubechies’ Least Asymmetric wavelet of length 8 (LA8). The LA8 transform is traditionally performed using Mallat’s Pyramid Algorithm with a moving window, however Sweldens’ Lifting Scheme allows us to do fewer operations and is parallelizable with in-place calculations. Other wavelet filters have already been reformulated in terms of the Lifting Scheme but not the LA8 transform, despite its widespread use.
