Assessment in e-Learning Environment: Key Issues and Pitfalls

Abstract: With the number of years being in the academe, the authors have been administering on-line exams to the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) students on selected subjects which is geared in further improving the teaching methodologies as practiced way back. But what goes with this methodology are some key issues that are experienced by most educator which is of major concern specifically, academic dishonesty or to put it simple, cheating. Over that time, the authors reviewed the existing literatures on cheating, conducted own research on the subject, and subsequently devised a number of strategies to combat it. Similarly, the researchers also made some empirical methods to prove further how these practice affects students’ attainment of expected competency or not at all from the given course because of relying solely to the said practice of cheating. This paper shares the results of the authors’ research and personal experiences being an Instructor on the personal battle on cheating and further prove how this practice affects students’ attainment of the expected competency. The researchers focused on one program offering of the university specifically on the field of Networking.
