Abstract:

Graphs have always been used to visualize network data. Through graphs, relationships between entities or nodes can be seen clearly. However, for the visualization of regional water transport-based commodity flow data, a simple graph would not suffice. A method for visualizing regional commodity flow data called Enhanced Flow Map is presented. It uses weighted edges and colored nodes to illustrate the trade relationship of one region to another. This technique is an enhanced flowmap used in [1]. The method is demonstrated by visualizing and analyzing the trade data from the third quarter of 2008. Results show that the proposed methodology is sufficient enough to find trade patterns from the data.
