Abstract:

Teaching a foundation level university engineering course poses a very different set of issues than are typically faced in other classes. This paper presents an innovative approach that was implemented in teaching a foundation electrical engineering course with extensive use of e-learning components, videos and animations for explaining fundamental principles using examples, scenarios and practical applications that students could relate to. The online learning components were integrated to make real improvements in understanding and learning, as validated by the feedback from students. Student feedback showed that students developed better understanding of concepts and felt more empowered when these innovative teaching methods and strategies were used, and found the overall learning process was more effective and enjoyable
