Abstract:
Enterprise Resource Planning ((ERP) systems have been most widely adopted in various business areas in last 20 years. Though there are many benefits from successfully implemented ERP systems, ERP systems implementation is a daunting task with high failure rate. There were many studies to identify critical success factors (CSFs) to manage risk factors inherent in ERP systems implementation. These studies have collected and described what these CSFs are by compiling anecdotal CSFs from various sources. But, the findings of these studies do not provide practical guidelines because they are just compilation of CSFs without relative importance among CSFs. In this paper, these compiled CSFs are ranked through a content analysis with empirical data to understand relative importance, or ranking, among these factors to help ERP implementers allocate implementation efforts and resources appropriately. Minimum customization of ERP software is ranked atop , indicating that the major source of failure risk comes is the technical complexity of integrating existing applications with ERP systems, thereby, suggesting that a tight project management is a key or a successful ERP implementation.
