Abstract:

A traditional liberal arts and sciences college teacher education program grows enthusiasm for its program through Facebook and its Fan functions. The two-year experience resulted in limited interest on the part of fans to engage the site. Consequently, two faculty members are developing a more robust social media environment linking traditional web pages, program information, and students in the program who are living and being a part of the program on a daily basis. This approach creates bifurcation of webspace turning static program materials into living professional and personal experiences of students. The purposes of the paired web environments are to: tell the story of students in the program at the program level, create a dynamic interface with traditionally static program information, and connect higher education with those who are less familiar with college and its expectations.
