Gas chromatography procedure for determination of ethanol in viterous humor using n-propanol as internal standard

Abstract: For analysis of cases of alcohol intoxication or cases of doubtful postmortem production of ethanol, vitreous humor is the suitable alternative specimen to blood and urine.Gas-chromatography procedure for determination of postmortem ethanol and various volatiles from vitreous humor are presented here. In the present work we have demonstrated methods for determination of ethanol and major volatiles, identified as decomposition products in vitreous humor. The procedure presented is simple, sensitive, reproducible and allowed better resolution of peaks in patient samples.
