Abstract: Awareness regarding the importance of post-blast investigation has increased amongst forensic scientist due to extensive media reported bombing activities in recent years. The identification of explosive residues in crime scene forensic investigation, and environmental site remediation is an analysis of major significance to both public and regulatory authorities. The analysis of post-blast bomb residues is therefore crucial for identification of explosives. In this study, cotton swabbing technique was used to swab the pyrotechnics post-blast residues. Pre and post blast explosives residues were analyzed using highperformance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with ultraviolet (UV) detector. HPLC analysis was performed on an octadecylsilane (C18) column using acetonitrile-water mixture (70:30) as mobile phase. HPLC separation was affected using an isocratic mode with detection wavelength of 230 nm. The results of this study revealed that all four types of pyrotechnic samples analyzed gave different HPLC profiles.
