Abstract: Chorgali Formation is an important oil and gas producing reservoir rock in the Potwar Plateau. The Chorgali Formation is well exposed in Central Salt Range as well as in some parts of eastern Salt Range. The Chorgali Formation is mainly consists of alternating beds of flaggy limestone and shale, caping compact limestone. Two well exposed sections were selected for this study, one at Bochal in central Salt Range and second one at Pir Makhdum Jahanian area in eastern Salt Range. Sections were measured, total 20 samples were collected, 70 thin sections were prepared for the study of the microfauna. 10 age diagnostic species of larger foraminifera were recorded including Alveolina rotundata bhadrarensis (Sameeni 1997) and Nummulites djodjokartae Martin 1881.The exact age of Chorgali Formation according to modern shallow benthic zones (SBZ) on the basis of the recorded fauna is SBZ-9 (Late Ilerdian).
