Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to understand the impact
of the unconformity surfaces on diagenetic alterations of the
siliciclastic sequence. These unconformable surfaces represent
different geological ages and occur in the Paleozoic successions of
Saudi Arabia. The samples were collected from the sandstones
along and below the unconformities. The unconformity surfaces
were also sampled to understand their origin and the type of
climate under which they were formed. The main diagenetic
alteration is the formation of kaolinite that is more abundant
below and at the unconformities. Such study provides better
understanding and prediction of the spatial and temporal
distribution of diagenetic alterations and related reservoir
quality along and below unconformities.
