Abstract: Background: In the context of nursing education, the lecture notes, lectures, lecturers’ demonstration and visual assessment of students’ demonstration, form the basis of existing conventional teaching and learning. The introduction of Nursing Skill Demonstration Videos (NSDV) produced, could be a useful resource to enhance the existing learning and improve the practical test results. The study was conducted at the School of Health Sciences, Ngee Ann Polytechnic in Singapore. Objectives: The aim of this study is to evaluate if there is a correlation between the complementary use of NSDV versus existing conventional teaching and learning. The outcome will be measured through students’ learning experience (via a survey) and students’ practical test results. Method: A descriptive, cross sectional survey design study was employed on 135 (59{6e6090cdd558c53a8bc18225ef4499fead9160abd3419ad4f137e902b483c465}) nursing students in the first semester of their second-year study. They were allowed to have unlimited access to the NSDV, four weeks prior to their practical test. A week after their practical test, students were scheduled to answer the online survey which comprised of quantitative Likert scale questions and open-ended questions. The data was analysed using SPSS version 23. Results: There was a significant correlation between frequency of videos viewed and confidence level (P<0.05) reported by the students’ survey results, satisfaction level and understanding level (P<0.05) and student’s self-efficacy and stress level (P<0.05). There was no significant correlation between the number of views of the demonstration video and the student’s practical test results (P=0.358). Conclusion: Increased frequency of NSDV viewing had increased the students’ self-perception of confidence and their satisfaction level of the topic. From the survey results, students reported that they had a better understanding of the nursing skills when they had frequent access to NSDV. The students felt that their stress levels were reduced when they were motivated to perform nursing skills. However, the frequency of viewing NSDV did not have a correlation to students’ practical test result. Overall, the students evaluated that NSDV were great tools in enhancing their learning experience. More NSDV could be produced to further enhance their learning in future.
