Abstract: One of Human Resources greatest contributions to businesses and organizations today has been through gains in understanding, and disseminating, information on sustainability of the workforce. Many businesses talk about sustainability of the environment, sustainable business practices, sustainability of the market, and so on. Sustainability of the workforce means developing policies and practices that do not cause people to burn out in their jobs, that decrease stress related turnover, and decrease stress related disorders and diseases that carry large personal and organizational costs (along with negative effects on productivity). Sustainability of the workforce is critical to the long-term success of organizations.
