Abstract:
Innovation is regarded as the most powerful driving force for firms’ substantial development. This research addresses innovation strategy management concerning a number of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). SME plays an important role in creating economic growth at the local, regional, and even national levels (Jones and Tilley, 2003). Compare to larger firms, SMEs innovate in a different way that are attributed with behavioral advantages. The purpose of this study is to examine the critical driving forces of innovation and to analyze different innovation patterns based on empirical studies. A conceptual model of dynamic innovation is established in this paper for SMEs to generate innovation activities. The research attempts to identify various factors determinant the innovativeness of SMEs as well. The project targets the experience gain from a pilot research, which is carried out in cooperation with other researchers in the School of Management at the University of Tampere in Finland, also close collaboration with professors at Fudan University in China. The value of this study lies in the better understanding of innovation development in small enterprises in two different countries. Additionally, the Integration Innovation strategy is recommended to small firms to gain competitive advantage.
