Abstract:
This study aims to analyze the relationship between reading habits and the use of social media. Starting from the idea that the low level of interest in books in Brazil contrasts with the high level of interest in social media, the exploratory research affirms the relevance of the indepth reading of books, digital or printed. The preliminary results of a survey conducted among university students indicates the majority preference for printed books. Most students said they enjoy reading, however the time spent reading was much inferior to the time using social media, specially Facebook. The adoption of social cataloging platforms is still inscipient, however those who use these sites were among those most devoted to reading.
