Abstract: This paper compares the Chinese and English news headlines from the perspective of intertextuality, specifically, through ways like quotation, allusion and abbreviation. Through the contrastive analysis on the intertextuality, we conclude that: the journalist can make use of news discourse to conduct the ideological control to the public opinion. Therefore, news readers should take a critical attitude to achieve a more objective and comprehensive understanding of the news event.
Keywords: public opinion, Intertextuality, news headlines.
