An Analysis of Verbal Humor in Comedy Films from the Perspective of Cooperative Principle —Illustrated by the Example of Kung Fu Panda 3

Abstract: Comedy is one important genre of film with emphasis on humor. In this thesis, the author employs cooperative principle as the theoretical framework, both qualitative and quantitative research as the research method to analyze humorous dialogues in one comedy film - Kung Fu Panda 3. By the analysis, the author sums up the specific generation mechanism of verbal humor, and calculates the contribution CP and every maxim in CP makes to the success of verbal humor in Kung Fu Panda 3, proving that CP maxim violations is one important way to generate humor, and enlightening people, especially movie script writers with detailed ways to produce verbal humor..
