Abstract: With the continuous development of information technology and the popularity of the Internet, numerous internet buzzwords with both unique semantic features and cultural connotations are created and frequently used in Chinese people’s daily life. They update people’s language expression. As the typical language memes, internet buzzwords have revealed Chinese language evolution to a certain extent. Memetics, proposed by Richard Dawkins in 1976, is a relatively new theory to explain cultural evolution and it has drawn wide attention from the academic field at home and abroad by virtue of its powerful explanation. Based on Memetics, this paper aims to analyze the main source of Chinese internet buzzwords and the choice of domestication and foreignization in their C-E translation. Hope this paper can provide some inspirations for translation, foreign culture transmission and communication.
