Abstract: The thesis studies the application of domestication and foreignization translation strategies to the translation of four- character words in 2017 Report on the Work of the Government (RWG). The author tries to classify the types of four-character words in 2017 RWG and analyze the application of domestication and foreignization strategy to the translation of four-character words, and then to find out, which translation strategy is more frequently used in the translation of each type of four-character words of 2017 RWG. The conclusion is reached: predicate- complement words, four-character words with numbers and idioms are more frequently translated by using domestication strategy. Modification-head, subject-predicate, predicate-object and parallel words are more frequently translated by using foreignization strategy. The conclusion can be helpful for translators in choosing translation strategies when they translate different types of four-character words in political texts.
