Abstract: from the perspective of metaphorical theory of cognitive linguistics, this article has analyzed metaphors in the prose "the Sight of Father's Back ". Through the qualitative method, I have explored 20 kinds of metaphors, and conducted by the method of quantitative statistics, I have found that there are totally 95 metaphors in the prose and an average of 1.76 metaphors is contained in each sentence, so metaphors also plays a very important role in Chinese language and the result also confirms Lakoff and Johnson’s idea that metaphors are the thinking way we live by.
