Abstract: This paper explores what is arguably the most significant competition policy issue in China today: how effective are the enforcement mechanisms behind that country’s Anti-Monopoly Law (AML)? Drawing on the latest developments in China, the paper clarifies the division of enforcement responsibilities under the AML and, guided by international best practice, delivers recommendations consistent with the ultimate goal of ensuring the AML is enforced in a consistent and principled manner.
