Abstract: We investigated the influence of interlayer sp3 carbons on the mechanical properties, such as Young’s modulus and tensile strength of multi-crystalline graphites with an orientation parameter. It was found that interlayer sp3 carbons in a crystallite with the orientation angle of 0° decrease the tensile strength, whereas those in a crystallite with the orientation angle of 45° increase the tensile strength and Young’s modulus. It was found that the presence of interlayer sp3 carbons improves greatly the mechanical properties of a multi-crystalline graphite with the orientation parameter of 85 {6e6090cdd558c53a8bc18225ef4499fead9160abd3419ad4f137e902b483c465}.
