Abstract:

A large structure is generally built after joining various elements. Fusion welding is the common mode of making a metallic joint. During fusion welding a large amount of heat is generated which thereby melt the joint surrounding and creates a robust joint after solidification. Various process and material parameters affect the joint configuration. In this paper, a thermal simulation of fusion welding of submerged arc welding is modeled using ANSYS. A moving heat source model based on Double-Ellipsoid heat flux distribution is presented. The transient temperature distributions and temperature variations of the welded plates during welding are predicted. Effect of the few process parameters on temperature profile and angular distortion of plates is further investigated.
