Abstract:

Heat carrying capacity of weld depends upon mechanical properties which further depends upon metallurgical properties. Metallurgical properties depend upon the cooling rate. Hence an attempt has been made shows the relation of cooling rate to the microhardness and microstructural changes of weldment, which is mostly responsible for failure of weld. Temperature profile at various cooling rates can help in better understanding of the variation in microhardness of weldment. Cooling rate is directly depends on the process parameters like welding current OCV Voltage and welding speed. The effect of these parameters on microhardness and microstructure is investigated in present study. Microhardness of HAZ plays important role in strength and durability of weldment and hence by controlling welding parameters we can reduce the risk of weldment failure.
