Abstract: Complex profile on hard and electrically conductive materials is obtained by Wire-cut electrical discharge machining (WEDM). It is one kind of unconventional machining process in which spark energy is utilized to erode the electrically conductive material. In the present investigation, the influence of process parameters on process characteristics is carried out for EN 24 steel. The experiments are conducted as per the Taguchi’s L27 orthogonal array(OA) methodology. This work investigates the effect of pulse ON time(Ton), pulse OFF time(Toff), voltage(V), wire speed (S), wire tension(WT) and work feed rate(F) on metal removal rate (MRR), kerf width(KW) and surface roughness (Ra). The optimization is also carried out using Taguchi’s Technique to enhance the effectiveness of the WEDM process. The Analysis of variance (ANOVA) statistical tool is used to find the most significant control factor in the process responses. The result reveals that the work feed rate, wire tension, wire speedare the most significant control factors for MRR, kerf width and surface roughness respectively. The interaction effect of process parameters also observed. The micrograph study also carried out to observe the condition of the machined surface using scanning electron microscope (SEM) images.
